Reflections on Main is a gift and home décor shop where front porch rockers and a hot cup of tea are always waiting for you. Visitors are welcome to browse the unique product selection or just enjoy the old-fashioned setting with a good book, needlework, quilting, or artwork.

The shop, originally a family home, was constructed of hand-hewn lumber from the nearby woods in historic Albemarle, North Carolina. Victor Herbert and Jessie Watson Simmons moved into the house in 1936. Following some additions to the home, the couple welcomed some additions of their own — sons Oren North and Warren Lee. Jessie’s mother, Nanny Watson, also became a part of the household.

In 1967, Lee married Sonja Biles — owner of Reflections on Main. Sonja fondly remembers family gatherings at the home, as well as the dedicated work ethic of the family. Lee and Sonja’s own children spent many Sunday afternoons at Herbert and Jessie’s home, enjoying family meals and making mud pies on the back porch.

Sonja and her partner, who happens to be her daughter, Joy Brown, opened Reflections on Main on September 13, 2003. Sonja best describes the concept behind the store herself:

“A house is a structure with wood, glass, metal and mortar. A home is something that requires more. Not fine things but fine thoughts and aspirations. Reflections on Main is a meeting place for women who want to make their own homes all it should be. We supply the inspiration for the interior beauty and our customers supply us with warm stories and laughter.”

You’re always welcome at Reflections on Main to share news, decorating and gardening advice, to look for the perfect gift, or just to say hello. And yes, Sonja says you may even cut the lavender from the garden!

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."
